Brief Biography

Dr. Ashley Neal Haines is the Co-PI for the NSF-funded Coastlines & People (CoPe) grant awarded to NSU and UVA. Entitled: "Enhancing Resilience and Equity in Urban Coastal Communities through the Co-Generation of Community Capitals”. The overarching goal of the project is to create transferable methods for enhancing resilience and equity in urban coastal communities. For more information:

Her primary research interests are related to environmental restoration issues impacting the Chesapeake Bay watershed including water quality and microplastics pollution. She also has expertise and interest in studying pathogens of fishes and lower vertebrate immune systems.

Since 2010, Dr. Haines has been teaching Integrative Zoology, Microbiology and Immunology courses and mentoring undergraduates through research opportunities in her lab. She is dedicated to the training of minorities in STEM and to improving diversity in the field of Biology.
